Using stable isotopes and major ions to identify recharge characteristics of the Alpine groundwater-flow dominated Triglavska Bistrica River

چکیده
Triglavska Bistrica is a typical Alpine river in the north-western part of Slovenia. Its recharge area includes some highest peaks Julian Alps. The hydrogeological conditions and flow depend largely on groundwater exchange between karstified aquifer carbonate rocks intergranular glaciofluvial deposits. average volume up to several m3/s. In this study, water samples from different locations along were analysed for stable isotope ratios oxygen hydrogen, major ions, concentration tritium activity. correlation ions suggests that consists both limestone dolomite rocks. ?18O ?2H values decrease downstream, implying elevation increases. At downstream sampling site V-5, located approx. 300 m upstream confluence Sava Dolinka River, calculated mean altitude estimated be 1,996 m.

Identifying Seasonal Groundwater Recharge Using Environmental Stable Isotopes
In this study, the stable isotope values of oxygen and hydrogen were used to identify the seasonal contribution ratios of precipitation to groundwater recharge in the Hualien River basin of eastern Taiwan. The differences and correlations of isotopes in various water bodies were examined to evaluate the groundwater recharge sources for the Hualian River basin and the interrelations between grou...
متن کاملGroundwater recharge simulation using a coupled saturated-unsaturated flow model
Abstract The coupled MODFLOW-HYDRUS software package was used to produce a saturated-unsaturated flow model for a Flood Spreading System (FSS) and its associated aquifer. The study aim to improve simulations of near-surface hydrological processes, including temporal and spatial variation in groundwater recharge rates. The coupled model was built with average RMSE=1.1 and 1.3 for calibration ...
متن کاملUsing natural distributions of short-lived radium isotopes to quantify groundwater discharge and recharge
Radium activity in pore water of wetland sediments often differs from the amount expected from local production, decay, and exchange with solid phases. This disequilibrium results from vertical transport of radium with groundwater that flows between the underlying aquifer and surface water. In situations where groundwater recharge or discharge is significant, the rate of vertical water flow thr...
متن کاملImplications of using on-farm flood flow capture to recharge groundwater and mitigate flood risks along the Kings River, CA.
The agriculturally productive San Joaquin Valley faces two severe hydrologic issues: persistent groundwater overdraft and flooding risks. Capturing flood flows for groundwater recharge could help address both of these issues, yet flood flow frequency, duration, and magnitude vary greatly as upstream reservoir releases are affected by snowpack, precipitation type, reservoir volume, and flood ris...
متن کاملAssessing controls on diffuse groundwater recharge using unsaturated flow modeling
[1] Understanding climate, vegetation, and soil controls on recharge is essential for estimating potential impacts of climate variability and land use/land cover change on recharge. Recharge controls were evaluated by simulating drainage in 5-m-thick profiles using a one-dimensional (1-D) unsaturated flow code (UNSAT-H), climate data, and vegetation and soil coverages from online sources. Soil ...
